Colon Cancer is responsible for around six hundred fifty thousand deaths per year world wide, is is also the third most common form of cancer.
Colon cancer is believed to come from the mushroom shaped growths called adenomatous polyps in the colon. The vast majority of these growths are usually non-cancerous, but some do grow into cancer over enough time has elapsed.

The best protection for yourself against life threatening colon cancer is early detection. The best detection is to have a regularly scheduled colonoscopy. Colonoscopies should be scheduled at regular 5 year intervals starting at age 50 for white males, 45 for African Americans.

Surgery is usually performed to remove the cancer for the colon, which is usually followed by chemotherapy
Factors of Colon Cancer
The older you get the higher your odds of contracting colon cancer, roughly 90% of all people with colon caner are older than fifty years old.
Another factor to increasing your odds of being diagnosed with colon cancer is your race, African Americans are at a greater risk than other races of being diagnosed.
